Story Cartel is a website offering authors the opportunity to have their books reviewed by readers signed up to their website. But before you rush in, a note of caution for those of you in KDP Select. The way Story Cartel currently makes your book available to reviewers, could breach KDP Select’s exclusivity rules.
It was after I’d signed up that it dawned on me that I should have tested out the site as a reader, first. I figured that if I could find another book to review, that might encourage others to review my book. In short, I couldn’t find one. I didn’t even get past the amateurish looking book covers.
And then I read that the only way to guarantee success is to make daily review requests on social media. But I could do that on my own, and save myself $25, surely? In the end, I had to pull out of Story Cartel (I hadn’t uploaded my book and they gave me a full refund).
Story Cartel must work for some authors, but presumably, those who read and write in different genres to me. If Story Cartel offered a better selection of books, that might encourage this writer to sign up. After all, there’s no such thing as too many reviews.
